Joe Shepherd, president of United Rural Democrats, is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the Huron County Democratic Party's annual Democracy Dinner.

The banquet will take place Thursday, Sept. 15 at the Milestone Event Center, 11 S. Prospect St., Norwalk, with cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7.

Shepherd, who worked as Central Regional director of Congressman Tim Ryan's 2019 presidential campaign, founded United Rural Democrats in September 2020. The organization aims to provide rural Democrats with the support they need to organize effectively, so that strong Democratic candidates get the resources they need to compete.

Several candidates who will appear on county ballots in the upcoming election will also speak at the event.

The event is a fundraiser for the local party. Dinner tickets are by a donation of any amount. Attendees should make checks payable to Huron County Democratic Party, in care of Chris Raftery, Treasurer, 85 North St., Monroeville, OH 44847, or donate online at hurondems.org/donate.

Those who plan to attend should send an RSVP by Sept. 10 to Chris Raftery at the above address, or to Karen Prelipp via email at karenp1515@ymail.com or by phone at 419-706-7242.
